THE LOUISIANA DIVISION OF THE ARTS TO CONDUCT
- Public Meetings to be held June 27, 2005 to June 30, 2005 -
BATON ROUGE, La. - The Louisiana Division of the Arts will conduct Regional Public Meetings to present a “Strategic Plan for the Arts” for public input. The Strategic Plan is an outgrowth of over 18-months of assessment research and strategy discussions. The public is invited to participate in public meetings to learn about the Strategic Plan and provide input before a final plan is adopted by the Louisiana Division of the Arts, an agency in the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism under the Office of the Lt. Governor.
“As we go about the business of building Louisiana’s Cultural Economy, our work must be guided by a clear, strategic plan,” said Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu. “With information from the ‘Assessment of the Arts in Louisiana,’ we have developed a plan that will be a catalyst for improving access to the arts and creating avenues of prosperity for Louisiana’s arts community.”
The Division of the Arts conducted over 20 interviews with key governmental and industry leaders, held more than 25 focus groups with more than 200 individuals participating, and received more than 400 artist and 200 arts organization surveys.
Individuals unable to attend a workshop should visit the Division of the Arts website at www.crt.state.la.us/arts to view an online presentation and provide comment. The presentation will be available beginning June 27, 2005 and opportunity for comment will extend through July 15, 2005.
“We will engage the citizens of Louisiana in a public input process,” stated Angele Davis, Secretary of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. “We value community feedback, and trust that together we will develop an effective plan.”
