LT. GOVERNOR LANDRIEU TO ANNOUNCE NEW CULTURAL DISTRICT IN NORTHEAST LOUISIANA

WHAT: Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu with Mayor Dave Norris will announce two Cultural Districts in Monroe and West Monroe

WHERE: Monroe Civic Center in the Bayou Room

WHEN: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at noon

WHO: Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu
Mayor Dave Norris of West Monroe

BACKGROUND: Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu with Mayor Dave Norris is scheduled to announce Monroe's and West Monroe's first Cultural Districts Wednesday, March 25th at noon.

The Cultural Districts program was created in 2007 to promote economic growth and community revitalization. The program builds partnerships among artists, business owners, and local and state government. The two primary incentives for communities to participate are:

  • Renovations to historic structures within the district may be eligible for state historic preservation tax credits, and
  • Sales of original, one-of-a-kind works of art within the district are exempt from local and state sales tax.
