LT. GOVERNOR LANDRIEU TO ANNOUNCE SHREVEPORT CULTURAL DISTRICT

WHAT: Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu will announce the creation of a Cultural District in Shreveport

WHERE: Government Plaza, 505 Travis St., 2nd Floor Mayor's Conference Room

WHEN: Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 2:00 pm

WHO: Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu
Mayor Cedric Glover
Scott Hutcheson, Assistant Secretary of Cultural Development

BACKGROUND: Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu and Mayor Cedric Glover are scheduled to announce the creation of Shreveport's first Cultural District Tuesday, March 10th at 2:00 pm.

The Cultural Districts program was created in 2007 to promote economic growth and community revitalization. The program builds partnerships among artists, business owners, and local and state government. The two primary incentives for communities to participate are:

  • Renovations to historic structures within the district may be eligible for state historic preservation tax credits, and
  • Sales of original, one-of-a-kind works of art within the district are exempt from local and state sales tax.
