STATE MUSEUM ANNOUNCES EMERGENCY PREPARATIONS

BATON ROUGE - Given the possible threat of Tropical Storm Gustav, the Louisiana State Museum, under the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, has implemented the following procedures in order to best prepare the Louisiana State Museum staff and protect the Museum's properties and artifacts:

The following Louisiana State Museum Properties will be closed on Friday, August 29, 2008 until Tuesday, September 2, 2009. The re-opening date is subject to change pending on the effects of Hurricane Gustav.

  • The Cabildo
  • The Presbytere
  • Madame John's Legacy
  • 1850 House
  • The Old U.S. Mint
  • Wendell-Williams Aviation Museum and the Cypress Sawmill Museum
  • The E.D. White Historic Site
  • The Louisiana State Museum - Baton Rouge and Natchitoches will remain open at normal business hours.

    At the present time the only artifacts or exhibit materials being transported are artworks which were located in Patterson. Those items are being stored at the Louisiana State Museum - Baton Rouge. All other artifacts in New Orleans, Patterson and Thibodaux are being elevated and propped on higher ground.
