Lt. Gov. Landrieu on the death of Senator Hainkel -- 04/15/2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 15, 2005
“When I learned that Senator Hainkel passed away, I was shocked and saddened. Just this past weekend when I visited with Senator Hainkel at the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, he was, as always, jovial and energetic about the upcoming legislative session.
“With the passing of Senator Hainkel, our state is losing a veteran legislator, who knew how to get things done for Louisiana. When we served together in the Legislature, Hainkel was instrumental in creating the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, writing the Supplemental Pay for Police and Firemen legislation, and funding the establishment of the LSU/Tulane Cancer Research Center.
“I believe Senator Hainkel’s greatest legacy will be authoring the TOPS college tuition legislation. Generations of Louisianans will have Senator Hainkel to thank for a fair shot at a college education and the opportunity to reach their potential.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Senator Hainkel's family at this time. He will be deeply missed. ”
