March 31, 2005
Baton Rouge, LA - Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement on the appointment of Simon Gonsoulin as the Deputy Secretary of Youth Services:
“Governor Blanco’s appointment of Simon Gonsoulin means good things for the juvenile justice reform movement in Louisiana. I wholeheartedly support her choice of Gonsoulin, and I am confident he has the leadership ability and necessary tools to implement change in the juvenile justice system.
“I am honored to continue to serve as Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Implementation Commission, and I look forward to working closely with Mr. Gonsoulin and Governor Blanco. I commend the Governor for her continued leadership on this important issue - from applying the Missouri model to implementing initiatives designed to separate juveniles from adult prisoners. The Governor is determined to improve public safety while rehabilitating our youthful offenders."
