LT. GOVERNOR LANDRIEU'S STATEMENT ON S-CHIP VOTE
(Baton Rouge, LA) - Lt. Governor Landrieu issued the following statement on today's S-CHIP vote:
"Today, Louisiana lost $60 million in funding to provide health coverage to an additional 54,000 children in low-income families. This is bad news for Louisiana - and our kids in need of adequate health care.
The well-being of our children should not be a partisan issue. In Louisiana, LaCHIP is a successful initiative that provides health coverage to more than 100,000 children in need and nearly 1,000 pregnant women.
I often say we need to push Louisiana towards excellence, not just the southern average. To do so, we need to provide our people, especially our children, with access to health care. Without the fundamentals in place, we will not be able to provide a good quality of life for our families, attract new businesses, and move Louisiana forward."
