Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu Administers AmeriCorps Pledge at Catholic Charities Cornerstone Builders Launch Ceremony
The Cornerstone Builders Program, an AmeriCorps project administered by Catholic Charities, is grounded in the belief that community service equips people with the skills and assets necessary to be productive, responsible citizens and builds healthier, stronger communities.
This inaugural Cornerstone Builders class includes 30 formerly incarcerated persons of varying ages, races, and educational backgrounds. They have joined AmeriCorps because they want to continue their educations and serve in the rebuilding of the New Orleans community. These members will work for local non-profit groups, cook meals, distribute food to families and seniors, build homes, and help to provide safe evacuation for elderly and disabled during hurricanes.
