State Park Swimming Pools Adjust August Schedules
BATON ROUGE - The Office of State Parks will adjust swimming pool schedules at sites around the state to ensure that visitors receive certified lifeguard supervision when pools are open through the end of the summer season.
"We want to continue to provide swimming opportunities at our sites through Labor Day, but some areas have been affected by the early August school opening dates, and many of our lifeguards are returning to school in August," said Stuart Johnson, deputy assistant secretary for the Office of State Parks. "It is important, to both our visitors and to ourselves, to provide a safe environment for our visitors."
The end of summer schedule for State Park pools will run as follows:
All State Park pools are closed for maintenance on Mondays during the summer season, with the exception of holiday Mondays. No State Parks swimming pools will be open after Sept. 4.
Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego also offers a wave pool. The swimming pools at Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville and St. Bernard State Park near Braithwaite remain closed due to hurricane damage.
State Parks with designated beach swimming areas include: Cypremort Point SP, east of Franklin; Jimmie Davis SP in Chatham; Grand Isle SP on Grand Isle; Lake Bistineau SP near Doyline; Lake Bruin SP in St. Joseph; Lake Claiborne SP in Homer; and Poverty Point Reservoir SP in Delhi. All beach areas are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, but do not have lifeguard supervision. Standard day-use admission of $1 per person provides beach access.
