The Atchafalaya Heritage Area has been designated by Congress as a National Heritage Area.
The pre-visit activity for this lesson is a general overview of Louisiana history. The post-activity includes students completing the question sheet (included) from the research developed during the museum visit. Students will develop one visual representation that shows the relation between the Mississippi River and one of the items selected on the question sheet. Also included is a math problem, and students will describe how humans’ actions and natural processes have modified coastal regions.
During the museum visit students will tour the galleries in search of answers to questions on the Louisiana Purchase, Louisiana Greats from Louisiana, Natural Abundance of Louisiana, Poverty Point in Louisiana, Louisiana at War, the mighty Mississippi River, and slavery in Louisiana.
