Comments: Holy Cross High School is a mediocre school and one that will never flourish in any neighborhood. It was struggling before the storm with enrollment at its lowest point in decades and dropping. In a way, the storm saved Holy Cross from its imminent demise, giving the Holy Cross administration the perfect excuse to pull its usual stunts at the expense of everyone associated with the area and those that will attend the new campus. I know that FEMA will grant them permission to build this school but I also know that in my heart of hearts the promised construction and plans for the school as well as the eventual rebuilding of the church will never come to fruition. Holy Cross will focus (as usual) on the athetic part of its new campus and put nearly all of its money to make it state-of-the-art, while the academic side of the school (what should be the meat of the school) gets the left-over budget and the 40-something year old texbooks. Where does this leave the promised rebuilding of the church? It leaves it in the memory of those who supported this decision with the hopes of a truthful promise and in the memory of those who stepped foot on those sacred grounds before Katrina. I pray that those involved make the right decision because I know that HC will not bring growth and help to the area so devastated by this storm, rather it will bring (as it has done for the last decade) disappointment and frustration as long as it is run by those who care more about the monetary profit rather than the intellectual stimulation and growth of those who attend their institution.
