St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Avenue
Comments: As an alumnus of Holy Cross, I have strong feelings on this subject and the future of our school.
Holy Cross has molded thousands of men in our community and eslewhere. At Holy Cross, we are taught more than what you read in text books. We are taught loyaltly, servanthood, and most importantly, we are taught the true meaning of family. Holy Cross has played a vital role in every aspect of my life, from being a dedicated father to a compassionate physician....and I know that my story is not unique.
I find it hard to believe that any building can affect and form the lives of so many the way Holy Cross has. You could have said that the Cabrini Church has the ability to do that, but not the building. And that is what we are discussing, a building. No building can contribute to society. No building can give back to the community. No building can inspire and mold generations of young men...Holy Cross can and will.
Thank you for you time. I appreciate your efforts in making the correct decision for the community. Please remember that the Cabrini Church--its people, has already agreed to Holy Cross getting the property. It is only people interested in conserving the architecture of the building that do not want it removed. I hope that you decide that the building is not what will best serve the community and by tearing it down, you will allow Holy Cross to continue its service to New Orleans.
