St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana
Comments: I strongly support the notion that the current building be torn down to allow Holy Cross to develop a new school on the property.

The former church is in poor condition and the funds are not available to restore the structure in a reasonable amount of time (the Archdiocese no longer wants the structure and has already indicated they will not allocate funds themselves to perform renovations). Even if the all necessary renovations were done, there is insufficient cash flow to support operating expenses associated with the structure (limited number of parishioners, and an even smaller number that would provide funds for a structure that is no longer their place of worship). It would simply be unfair to expect for Holy Cross to pay for such expenses when their plans do not include the structure. Other mentioned options (i.e. memorial, concert hall, etc.) would require years of campaigning to obtain the necessary funds.

The church may carry sentimental value for some; however, it carries little historical significance. The only possible significance of the structure may be architectural; however, this should not be used as a justification to slow progress of an entire community. Please do what is in the best interest of the neighborhood and the young men of Holy Cross, not in the best interest of a limited few.
