St. Frances Xaxier Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Ave., New Orleans, LA
Comments: I attended and graduated from Holy Cross ('61). I also lived in St. Frances Cabrini Parish when the Church and School were built. Holy Cross was worth the "ride" or distance to attend. The Church building was an eyesore from the day it was built. I've always thought so and I still do even as a Professional Engineer today. Besides its unappealing looks, the design did not adequately address structural soundness, ease of maintenance or public perception. Actually, I knew no one who liked or even cared for the builing's design from it's beginning. It's unfortunate that this or any other Church, house, structure etc. has been destroyed by Katrina, but common sense is needed. Maybe an Architectural or Preservasionist society will volunteer the cost of repairing, upgrading and maintaining this poorly designed and unattractive building.
