Comments: I grew up in this area. This is a modern church with very minimal religious architecture. I do not think it belongs on the register of historic places. This is really ridiculous. I have been to St.Frances many times before Katrina. It had no religious murals, nor statues, It was truly a modern church. I believe that it had to have been renovated post Vatican 2, my guess in the 70's because of all the "minimalist" features. I am hispanic and actually, the church cannot compare to the other truly beautiful and truly historic churches that deserve this standing that are in New Orleans. If you removed the crucifix, hanging above the altar, the church could pass for a protestant church. I kid you not. I am the parent of a Holy Cross student. Have you visited Lakeview /Gentilly recently? It is in shambles. Go there at night. It is scary. I think that re- building the Holy cross school there would breathe new life into that completely devasted area. Pictures do not do it justice. Let us not shoot ourselves in the foot any longer. We are never going to resurrect if we keep wallowing in red tape and sentimentality. Lets move forward with an aim to give Holy Cross a permanent home and breathe new life into our beloved Lakeview/Gentilly area.
