Comments: This church does NOT have to be torn down in order to revitalize the neighborhood. Holy Cross CAN be a part of the neighborhood ALONG with the church. Yes, the neighborhood would benefit by the presence of the school, but they also need a church for THEIR community - and not just a place where boys from all other parts of the city come to attend school. The community will not directly benefit from students coming mainly from other areas to go to school and then leaving at the end of the day and not staying in the area where the residents live.
I believe that the church will actually revitalize and bring back the community MORE than the shcool, as it has done in so many other congregations. The church is in good shape and better than in a lot of other neighborhoods where the parishioners were actually allowed to clean up their church property and bring it back to life, therefore bringing many of the parishioners together again.
