||Please allow the demolition of the church at 5500 Paris Ave so that Holy Cross can come to this area. The neighborhoods in Gentilly have been working diligently to restore this community. The arrival of Holy Cross will surely help speed the recovery of this area and we are committed to providing a home to this school where it will flourish. To saddle anyone with having to take care of a building that has been a burden to maintain since its origin does not make sense. Many of us, including me, have had to make the decision to demolish in order to rebuild more wisely. We are trying to regain our footing and forcing this school or someone else to deal with this church is not helping us in any way. Anyone who has gone through the hell of trying to get resources together to rebuild would know that requiring this church to remain will only add to our woes. Right now we are trying to get basics like a gas station, banks, and post office returned to our areas (basics that are easily taken for granted by those who have not lost such things to Katrina). Please do not impede our progress. There are ways to mitigate the effects of demolishing this building ithat could sensitively acknowledge its importance to the community that it served. Please make the decision to allow Cabrini Church to be demolished as soon as possible. Thank you.
