Name: Edwin Laizer
City: Metairie, Louisiana
Comments: Regardless of whether the church was historic before the storm (and nothing younger than me can be historic), those of us who live in post-Katrina New Orleans do not have the luxury of dealings with academic discussions. In the real world, the choice here is simple. On the one hand, FEMA can allow the demolition, remove a rotting eyesore from the neighborhood and save a school that has been educating young men in New Orleans for 128 years. On the other hand, FEMA can refuse to allow demolition, kill the school and leave the neighborhood with a building that will never be repaired, which will in turn kill the neighborhood. Seems like a pretty simple choice.
