||My wife & I were married in this church. Her family had lived in the parish since its beginning. Her mother would still be there had not Katrina(read the fed gov't) ruined her house.
This intestigation is based on the selfish concerns of architects, who believe that their legacies are more important than the revival of a neighborhood and the city. That's not unsuual for architects though.
Who will pay for the constant repairs to the church? The structure is a maintenance nightmare, and has been from the beginning. Why haven't these glory-seeking architects been concerned about that fact for these 40+ years? Is FEMA going to place a line item in their annual budget to cover the upkeep? The owner has stated that it does not have the money to reopen it, or maintain it.
This church is not significant in any way, except in the minds of architects who rarely see the practical side of anything. Why should we let them, or the federal government, destroy a neighborhood? The gov't has already done a pretty good job of that - before and after the storm.
TEAR IT DOWN, and let NOLA grow again!!!
