Name: Shiloh Moates
City: Covington, LA
Specific
property
affected:
5500 Paris Avenue, Cabrini Church
Comments: A community includes all of the people and structures in it, and should be considered as a whole. The whole community of New Orleans will suffer if Cabrini is torn down. The uniqueness and historic character of New Orleans could not have come about without some preservation of the special, and even mundane, buildings of our past. Cabrini at 50 years old will never get to be 100 years if it is torn down. Curtis and Davis have lost the Rivergate already, another irreplacable structure. There will never be enough money or craftsmanship available to build a concrete shell structure like Cabrini again, it is a gothic cathedral of its time. And like those buildings, it is a work of art, and has instrinsic value beyond convenience sake. Put a fluid applied roof system on it, and repair it, renovate it, preserve it, use it!
