||This diatribe of hate is deplorable. The Friends of SFC continually insult and denigrate HC. I have seen multiple attacks and insinuations that Holy Cross is colluding with the ARNO to steal the 4.5 million in insurance money.
And some of the HC supporters have been just as bad. But some facts should not be overlooked in this situation.
1) HC has nothing to do with ARNO and the insurance money and has been completely upfront with their plans to tear down SFC.
2) The ARNO has decided it will not rebuild or reopen Cabrini. That means no one can force them to use the money to fix. They have the legal right to do what they want with the insurance money.
At this point in time I hope that Holy Cross decides to move elsewhere. That way all of the Friends of SFC can take up a collection to re-build Cabrini and Holy Cross will move on to reopen their campus somewhere else. They will continue their role of educating young men and being a positive force in the city. However once HC does move somewhere else. The friends of SFC will be left with a decrepit building 20 acre sight. They will have to come up with the funds to purchase, renovate and maintain the building. As well as find a use for it. The ARNO has already stated they will not reopen the church as a church. (They do not want to take on that financial drain again). So what will be its use? Will the Friends of SFC be willing to pay and find the millions of dollars it will take support Cabrini? And it will take millions.
Also, since the historical society and city of NO has already stated that they do not think it is historical or significant? What is more likely to happen is that a developer (since they will not need FEMA funds) may one day buy the blighted property from the ARNO after years of neglect and the neighborhoods devaluation in order to tear it down and turn it into Condo's or a strip mall.
No matter what Cabrini church is never coming back. It is time to accept that and allow HC to stay in NO and contribute to the Neighborhoods revitalization.
